The problem we couldn't stop thinking about.
We've spent time working alongside product-based businesses across Bangalore — manufacturers, distributors, D2C brands, retail chains. One pattern kept repeating itself: smart, hard-working people spending their mornings doing work that a spreadsheet should do for them.
Every business we visited had Google Sheets. Detailed sheets, carefully built over months, tracking hundreds of SKUs, dozens of customers, thousands of transactions. All the data was there. But nobody had wired up the communication layer.
So every morning, someone — usually the owner or their most trusted ops person — opened the sheets, read the numbers, and manually sent updates to their team. This process took 2–4 hours. And despite the effort, things still got missed. A stock-out nobody caught in time. An overdue invoice buried in row 247. An order status change that never reached the warehouse manager.
We knew the technology to fix this existed. Google Apps Script has been built into Google Workspace since 2009. It can read sheets, send emails, fire alerts, generate PDFs — all for free. The only reason businesses weren't using it is that nobody had built a productized service around it, designed specifically for the way Indian SMEs actually operate.
That's why we built SheetPilot. Not to replace Google Sheets — but to make them intelligent.
